The duo declined to comment on their meeting.
A former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, on Monday further intensified the reconciliatory moves towards his known political enemies with a visit to Alani Bankole, a leading politician in the state and father of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.
Mr. Daniel arrived at the Onikolobo home of the elder Mr. Bankole in Abeokuta at about 9.30 a.m. after leaving the court where he is facing trial for corruption. He was accompanied by Tunji Ishola, a former Minister for Steel, who also served as his (Daniel’s) Secretary to the State Government; and some other political associates.
The former governor immediately went into a closed-door meeting with Mr. Bankole. The meeting lasted for one hour after which Mr. Daniel was seen beaming with smiles as he left.
He declined comments on what was discussed at the meeting but cheerfully told journalists, “I love you all. You are doing a wonderful job.”
He then entered his chauffeur-driven car, and drove off.
However, the host, Mr. Bankole who spoke with journalists, said his visitor came to see how he is faring health-wise as he had been nursing cold for a while now.
“He (Mr. Daniel) just came to visit me over my health. He learnt I have a cold and decided to pay me a visit and that is all,” Mr. Bankole said.
Mr. Daniel fell-out with the younger Bankole when both of them held office as governor and speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives respectively.
