According to its governor, Ogun State is working towards an excellently rated healthy and industrial friendly environment.
The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Saturday, led other top government functionaries and members of his cabinet on a street walk round Abeokuta to sensitize residents on the importance of tree planting.
Mr. Amosun and other selected officials, before embarking on the walk tagged Green Awareness Walk, planted a number of trees.
The governor while speaking, explained that it is part of his administration mission to rebuild the state, with focus on environment. He said the programme is aimed at “restoring the dwindling environment to support our survival as a human race and to ensure that Ogun State goes green.”
“The essence of this initiative can never be over-emphasized as man’s continued existence depends largely on his immediate environment,” Mr. Amosun said.
“The tree planting at this time could not have been more apt as our dear state is working assiduously towards excellently rated healthy and industrial friendly environment.
“Undoubtedly, ‘going green’ is the right strategic choice and our dear state has continued to play a very important role in achieving this objective,” he said.
The governor added that his government has reinstated monthly environmental sanitation with procurement and distribution of waste collecting vans for the collection of waste across the state, while basic policies and regulations have been implemented to prevent deforestation, among others.
