The ACN says that the card project will be used to rig elections.
The party said it marvels at the Labour Party, LP, government’s capacity for deceit which it has continued to manifest to the amazement of people of in the State.
A statement signed by the ACN state publicity secretary, Rotimi Agbede, said from the huge resources in billions of naira committed to the project, the pomp and pageantry with which the card was launched clearly shows that the state government has indeed lost a sense of priority and direction.
”At a time when the government cannot pay workers in its employ and is also laying off thousands of civil servants for lack of funds, this extraordinary display of financial recklessness is nothing but an act of insensitivity to the plight of the poor in the society.
”This showiness at the detriment of the common people is not the sort of attribute expected from a government that claims to be working for the people,” the party said.
”One wonders the usefulness of a card that captures the data of only the voting age population if not for the dual purposes of draining the resources of the state and form the data base for injection of ghost voters into INEC voters register as revealed at the tribunal.
”The launch of the card with its attendant fanfare by the state government is an attempt to cover their tracks and possibly divert the attention of the people from the original intention of the card project which is the rigging of the last gubernatorial election,” the ACN added.
The Action Congress said it is consoled by the fact that the reign of the LP is a passing phase in the state and would soon be consigned to the dustbin of history to pave way for a new government devoid of vices, for the interest of the common man.
