Ogun council lawmakers summon chairman over misconduct allegations

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State.

The councilors in Odeda, Ogun State, South West Nigeria summoned the council chairman.

The Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, Sulaiman Adebayo, has been summoned to appear before the legislative arm of the council over allegations of misconduct and maladministration.

The lawmakers have thus asked the chairman to appear before them on Tuesday, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.

The lawmakers allege that the chairman runs the affairs of the council as a sole administrator, awards contracts without input or approval of the legislative arm, used N4 million to furnish his office without following due process, and also collected N15 million from the council purse without knowledge of the legislators.

They also want the local government boss to give details of his stewardship since assumption of office, while he is also expected to defend himself on why the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has not improved since the new administration came on board.

When contacted, Mr. Adebayo confirmed receipt of the summon letter and said he had nothing to fear.
