Akure residents arrest robbery suspect

The suspected armed robber has been handed over to the Police.

Residents of Aratunsin Layout, along Bolajoko area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, have apprehended one of the suspected armed robbers alleged to have been terrorizing the neighbourhood.

The suspect, with two others who are still at large, were said to have attacked a couple in their home around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Some residents in the area reportedly learnt about the robbery incident and gave the suspected robbers a hot chase, arresting one of them.

Police Spokesperson, Ogodo Wole, confirmed the incident, saying one of the robbers was arrested by the combined efforts of the youth and some concerned neighbours who later handed the suspect to the Police.

Mr. Ogodo added that the suspect is currently receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang.

In a related development, another gang of armed robbers reportedly robbed some residents of Ajebamidele in Isinkan area of the state capital and went away with N381, 000 and other valuables.

It was gathered that the robbers raided houses of their victims at about 1 a.m., unleashing terror on them.

Mr. Wole, who also confirmed the incident, said the police detectives are working round the clock to ensure that the hoodlums are apprehended.
