The Ambassador described Mr. Adesina as a devoted defender of democracy.
A former American Ambassador to Nigeria, Walter Carrington, has joined the list of people who have paid tribute to the late former Governor of Oyo State, Lamidi Adesina.
Mr. Carrington said the death of Mr. Adesina “has robbed Nigeria of one its revered elder statesmen,” and “another of Nigeria’s devoted defenders of democracy is sadly gone.”
He said he will always “fondly remember the hospitality Governor Adesina extended 10 years ago to Arese (Mr. Carrington’s wife) and me when we came to Ibadan where I had been asked to deliver a eulogy for Bola Ige.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to the Adesina family and to the people of the state and nation which he so nobly served,” he said.
Mr. Adesina died on Sunday and has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
The State Government declared one-week of mourning for the former governor, which commenced from Monday.
