Three killed, 14 injured in Ogun auto crash

An anxious, reckless driver may have caused the accident.

A fatal accident has occurred along Abeokuta-Ibadan road reportedly causing the death of three people, while about fifteen passengers were injured.

Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that the accident occurred on Friday around 3.00p.m at Ikija village, a suburb of Olodo town in Odeda local government area of Ogun State.

The accident occurred when the driver of an Ibadan bound 14-passenger bus with registration number XA 116TUY tried to overtake vehicles in front of him. The move by the driver caused him to face a Nissan Sunny Car, with registration number SW 212KJA travelling in opposite direction.

In an attempt to avoid a collision with the bus, the car rammed into a stationary truck with registration number AB 129LND. Three of the four passengers in the car reportedly died on the spot.

The bus, which caused the accident, also skidded into a ditch causing injuries to its 14 passengers. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses say the bus driver, who was not injured, ran away to avoid being arrested or lynched by angry onlookers.

When contacted, the Abeokuta Commander of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Deji Dawodu, said his agency had been contacted over the incident, and had deployed its officials to the scene.
