The Federal Government has awarded the contract for the rehabilitation of the Julius Berger Terminal at Old Warri Sea Port in Delta State to construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, at a total contract sum of N9.046 billion naira.
The Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, who made the disclosure to news men after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the state house Abuja said the completion period of the contract is 25 months.
Mr. Umar also took time to explain the scope of work on the project and its impact on the shipping industry.
“The project involves a complete rehabilitation of the existing dilapidated structure at the terminal. The project when completed will meet the requirements of numerous shipping companies, serving oil drilling and prospecting companies in Nigeria,” He said
Mr. Umar further said the project became necessary in order to enhance the capacity of the port to meet its increasing challenges.
The minister informed news men that Julius Berger was chosen after a very competitive bidding by five companies.
