Abia Speaker whose police orderly shot FRSC officials visits victims

FRSC officials on duty used to illustrate the story.

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chikwendu Kalu, on Monday visited the two Federal Road Safety Commission officials shot on Saturday by police officers attached to him.

Mr. Kalu, who arrived the Living Word Mission Hospital, Aba, at about 10 a.m., said he came to see how the men were faring.

However, the speaker was stopped from entering their ward by the victims who shouted that Mr. Kalu should not be allowed into the room.

One of the men who was shot on the neck and waist was seen on the floor reeling and crying profusely, while some hospital staff tried to console him.

“I saw him at the scene. What if we had died, he would have come to see our corpses,” he said.

However, Mr. Kalu who spoke to journalists after the visit said he was satisfied that the FRSC men were recuperating and in a better health condition.

The speaker said that he had paid their hospital bills and would still pay them more visits until they were discharged from the hospital.

He said although he had no say in the fate of his police aide who shot the FRSC men, there was no reason for the shooting to have taken place at all.

“I don’t think I will ever condone that over-zealousness. I have been able to do the needful telling them that such a thing will never happen again,” he said.

Jude Ehiemere, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, when asked about the health status of the victims, declined comments, saying that he was busy and had no time for journalists.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had on July 15 confirmed the shooting of two of its officers on duty in Abia.

The Public Education Officer of the Corps, Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the shooting to NAN, was, however, silent on the identity of those responsible.

Mr. Kazeem said the matter had been reported to the police for investigation, while the victims were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

“It is true that our officers were shot this afternoon. The matter has been reported to the police and we are awaiting the outcome of their investigation.

“The wounded officers have been hospitalised, and they are in stable condition.

“This will not deter our men from carrying out their duties, but would rather embolden them to make our roads safer for Nigerians,” he said.

smdh, let them go abeg. This is how they exercise their authority shoot 1st ask question later. Ipob and kanu threatened everybody to stay home and they claimed success after when they stayed home…this is according to 2 of their governors. Nonsense !

    • Abdulyeqeen Kale

What restructure would have brought? Where are IPOB agitator? A speaker of state involving himself in this kind of attempt to murder. I will blaming this on Buhari, herdsmen or Islamization of Nigeria? Please, what we want is reliable people in government and it requires everybody’s involvement. We should push for prosecution of the speaker, his wife and the police officer involve.

      • Julius

Oh ipob and kanu are busy spreading falsehood and selling worthless passport to be bothered by one of their Deputy governor ordering the police to shoot a law enforcement officer. Can you imagine their noise if that happened in the SS, SW and the North ? Just think about that. They will be using this as one of their justifications for separation and calling the country a ‘zoo’ as if their utopia biafraud will be any difference. Nonsense.

        • Kalu

@Julius11:disqus . You refused to study when your parents sent you to school. Now you are confusing a Speaker with Deputy Governor.

Anyway, I can assure you that the policemen that shot these FRSC officials are from the arid Islamic State of Northern Nigeria. They are always quick to use their weapons whenever they encounter ordinary people within the South East even when collecting bribes at their numerous roadblocks.

          • Julius

There you go blaming somebody else from the North. Abi. What’s the fucking difference between your Deputy governor, your speaker ,kanu , you and the ipob ? You are the same..animals, savages and cannibals. Here you are almost doing the same thing you accused me of doing..how can you assure me that the policeman is from the North when your animal speaker ordered him to shoot another man without justification.. Is it because you didn’t study when your parent sent you to school ? See how idiotic you think ?

  • This is so strange, corruption must be removed from this beautiful country !!
