The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the death of a policeman who killed a motorcyclist on Tuesday in Nsukka while trying to shoot into the air to scare away people.
Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, said the officer died from injuries he sustained after he was beaten to coma by angry mob in Nsukka.
“Yes the policeman who was beaten in Nsukka on Tuesday has died from the injury inflicted on him by the mob,” he said.
Mr. Amaraizu who condemned the action of the mob, said the police had commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the attack on the officer.
“All the people that were involved in the beaten of the slained officer will be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
“He was on official duty, anybody who feels he acted above his power should have reported the matter to the appropriate quarter for redress.”
The officer was identified as Corporal Nobert Ugwuanyi attached to Nsukka Building Material Taskforce.
He was on duty when he was beaten to coma after accidentally killing a motorcyclist in the University town of Nsukka in Enugu state.
