The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has petitioned the Nigeria Police over the alleged forgery of the party’s governorship primary election result sheet by one of the governorship aspirants in the state, Ayogu Eze.
The party asked the force to arrest, investigate and prosecute the senator for the alleged offence.
Mr. Eze, a senator, and Ifeanyi Uguawanyi, a member of the House of Representatives, emerged the PDP governorship flag bearers at the two separate primaries held in the state December 8.
The primary election supervised by a five-member panel appointed by the national secretariat of the party produced Mr. Ugwuanyi as its candidate.
Its members were Asara Asara (Chairman), Ukpai Ukairo (Secretary), Saratu Umar, Alamu Adeyemi and Mr. Asogwa (state chairman of the party).
In the petition dated December 17 and signed by the chairman of the party in the state, Ikeje Asogwa, the PDP complained of an alleged plot by Mr. Eze to truncate the party’s successful primary election in the state with the forged documents.
Narrating the alleged criminal act Mr. Eze committed, Mr. Asogwa said the panel came with result sheets and ballot papers for the election, but that the senator, who was an aspirant in the parallel primary election, produced a result on a forged sheet purported to be the same with the one sent from the national secretariat.
“The members (of the panel) came with the official result sheets from the party headquarters, as well as the ballot papers and other materials required to conduct the primary election” he said. “At the end of the electoral exercise, the members issued a result of the election wherein they returned Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as having won the election.
“Surprisingly, Senator Ayogu Eze, who was a candidate at the said primary election, has now uttered a result purporting same to be the result of the said primary election of 8th December, 2014. The said result was produced on a forged result sheet purporting same to be the result sheet of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Explaining further, the state PDP chairman, who attached the original result sheet to the petition, said Mr. Eze allegedly uttered the forged documents and used same in the process he filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Mr. Asogwa asked the police authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary steps to “arrest and prosecute Senator Ayogu Eze for the altering and forgery of PDP result sheet in accordance with the dictates of the law.”
