Fifteen corps members received the State Government’s Honours Award, which has N100, 000 cash reward.
The Director of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Abia, Badmus Adegbenga, said on Thursday that six of the 2,272 ‘Batch B’ 2013 corps members in the state would have extended service year for absconding.
Mr. Adegbenga explained in a statement on the completion of the service year in Umuahia by the youth that the extension was based on the policy that those who absconded from service for up to three months repeat the service.
Mr. Adegbenga also said 15 corps members received the State Government’s Honours Award, which has N100, 000 cash reward.
It said that seven corps members received the state NYSC Board Chairman’s award, while five others received the State Director’s award.
The passing out ceremonies, which included the traditional parade by corps members and speeches, were cancelled by the Federal Government for security reasons.
The corps members were merely directed to collect their NYSC discharge certificates from their zonal offices in the state.
