The staff of a Bayelsa television station, NDTV, Yenagoa were on Thursday thrown into mourning after the chief driver of the station, Yoluwa Ekiye, slumped and died while on duty.

Mr. Ekiye was conveying the staff to work when, along the Tombia-Amasoma, Yenagoa, as the bus was waiting for a traffic signal at an intersection, he suddenly slumped over the steering wheel.

“We thought he was sleeping,” a staff member who witnessed the incident said.

The staff members in the bus expressed shock and disbelief over the sudden demise of the driver.

A presenter at the station, Olasuyi Ebi, described the incident as a sad development. According to him, the deceased was well respected among his colleagues and dedicated to work.

At the station’s premises, an atmosphere of gloom was noticeable on the faces of workers who gathered in small groups to discuss the incident.

A senior staff of the station said that management was in a meeting with the family of the deceased and that the station could not comment until Mr. Ekiye’s family was fully briefed.
