The University is yet to announce a resumption date.
Lecturers of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, in Anambra on Wednesday resumed work in compliance with the directive of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The branch chairman of the union, Ike Odimegwu, who announced the resumption of the lecturers, described the strike as a “painful experience for the union and students alike”.
He said it was not the intention of ASUU to ground academic services in universities in the first place.
He assured students that part of the union’s achievements would be a renewed vigour in their resolve and understanding to promote quality education.
Mr. Odimegwu commended the courage of the Federal Government in withdrawing its sack order to the striking lecturers.
The chairman noted that the government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that no lecturer would be victimised for participating in the strike.
Meanwhile, very few students were seen on campus discussing the suspension of the strike.
Some of them who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria said that they were on campus to find out the actual day for resumption of classes.
Nkoli Uwakwe of the Department of Accountancy urged the school authority to shift the resumption to January to enable students prepare fully for academic activities.
“It is barely one week to Christmas and it will be unfair to ask students to return to campus,’’ she said.
The university is yet to announce the date for resumption of academic activities.
