A Lagos-based lawyer, Chijioke Ndubuisi, has emerged the flag bearer of the Democratic Peoples’s Party (DPP) for the Anambra governorship election slated for November16.
Mr. Ndubuisi, 49, is joining a growing league of contenders for the Anambra Government House, which include veterans like Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress; and newcomers like Tony Nwoye of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Ifeanyi Uba of the Labour Party, LP; and Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Mr. Ndubuisi, who runs a law firm in Lagos, was the governorship flag-bearer of the defunct National Democratic Party in the last election in Anambra, won by Peter Obi of APGA.
The DPP flag-bearer was returned unopposed at a meeting of members of the party, held in Awka on Monday, according to a statement, signed by the Chairman of the DPP in Anambra, Charles Ezeokeke.
Mr. Ndubuisi emerged the DPP flag-bearer after the party’s meeting held in Awka on September 2 in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Speaking in an interview after getting the flag of the party, Mr. Ndubuisi, who hails from Obosi, near Onitsha, said that if elected, he would run an inclusive government to ensure the transformation of Anambra.
“My dream is to transform Anambra State to be like Dubai. Anambra State is known for commercial activities and my administration will ensure that more people benefited from the huge commercial potential in the state,” he said.
He said that he would abolish tuition fees in schools in the state, to give everyone an opportunity to acquire free and compulsory education.
The governorship aspirant expressed regrets that some people elected in the past as governors in the state had failed to match words with action, after making promises to people to get their votes.
Asked if the DPP had a chance in the election, Mr. Ndubuisi said that people of Anambra knew what they wanted and would not be deceived by “noise-makers, who get votes and turn their back on the people”.
