The pediatrician was kidnapped two weeks ago.
The Police Command in Ebonyi on Tuesday said it arrested 24 suspects in connection with the kidnap of Pius Manyike and a woman two weeks ago by gunmen.
Mr. Manyike, a Consultant Pediatrician with the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, was kidnapped at his private clinic at No 15A, Owerri Street, Abakaliki.
His security guard was killed by the kidnappers, while the woman, Lydia Uduma, was kidnapped at her residence in Oso-Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Sylvester Igbo, said in Abakaliki that Manyike and Uduma were rescued at the forests in Ohaukwu Local Government Area and Amasiri, Afikpo North Local Government area, respectively.
“We have so far arrested 24 suspects in connection with the kidnap of the victims and they will soon be charged to court.
“Manyike was rescued unhurt and no ransom was paid. Five of the suspects are helping us with useful information in the case.
“No ransom is also paid for Uduma’s release as 19 of the suspects are answering questions in connection with the case,” he said.
He said that the command tracked a gang of armed men, who rubbed one Emmanuel Agha and his wife at No. 3, Emmanuel close, Abakaliki on May 18.
“The victims were robbed of their laptops, five mobile phones, one wedding ring, a wrist watch, a First Bank ATM card and N110, 000.
“They threatened to kidnap the couple if they fail to pay them N1 million before a particular day.
“Our men, however, apprehended them along Afikpo road, when they came to collect the money.’’
