A group, the South East/South South Alliance for Jonathan (SESSAJ), has pleaded with Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan when he eventually decides to contest the 2015 presidential election.

The National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Mike Egbuchulam, made the appeal at a news conference in Aba, Abia on Wednesday.

He said that Nigerians should support the president to seek re-election in 2015 if he wished to contest the election.

Mr. Egbuchulam, a university lecturer, said the group was rooting for Mr. Jonathan to contest the next election based on Jonathan’s  transformation agenda.

“Despite all the hurdles placed on his way by the opposition and the security challenges he has been grappling with, Jonathan’s administration has made giant strides in all sectors within a short time in office.

“When one is doing well, it behoves on the citizens of that country to support him and ask him to continue his good work which is exactly what we are doing,” he said.

Another member of the group, Dr. Love Arugu-Iwori, said the group was ready to go to any length to encourage anything that would be good for the country.

She said this was why the group was canvassing for Mr. Jonathan to contest the 2015 election “to be able to complete the good work he is doing for the country.

“We encourage every person who has seen the good works of Dr Goodluck Jonathan to join hands with us, irrespective of political affiliation to ensure that he is re-elected in 2015,” she said.

The National Secretary of the group, Dr Godfrey Pondei, also expressed faith in Jonathan’s administration, saying that the security challenges facing the country was the handiwork of those who did not wish the president well.

He, however, said that the problem was not peculiar to Nigeria.

“The best way to handle the security problem is not to ask a performing president to relinquish office, instead he should be encouraged to overcome the security challenge and take the nation to enviable height,” Mr. Pondei said.
