Ondo CPC appeals against election tribunal judgment

The CPC said the tribunal was wrong in its ruling.

The Ondo State Chapter of Congress for Progressive Change , CPC, and its governorship candidate, Soji Ehinlanwo, have filed an appeal against the judgment of the Election petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the state capital.

The three-member panel last week Wednesday struck out the petition filed by the party and its candidate.

In the suit by their lawyer, Segun Ogodo, they prayed the Appeal Court to nullify the judgment delivered by Justice Kak’n’ led panel.

They said the premise upon which the judgment was based is faulty and untenable.

The CPC and Mr. Ehinlanwo urged their supporters not to be discouraged by the verdict of the lower Tribunal. They also denounced the newspaper report where Tony Obaoye and Olujimi Lomowo claimed they were secretary and chairman of CPC in Ondo State.

The party, through its publicity secretary, Olufisayo Folorungbon, said the “two individuals were recruited and being used by the Labour Party (LP) to destabilize the party (CPC).”

“The duo is out to weaken the avowed determination and resolve of the entire CPC members in the state to prove that the election was marred by massive irregularities,” the party said.

The party affirmed that the two men have been consequently suspended by the state executive committee for anti-party activities because of the “shameful” assignment they carried out.

“We were not surprised at all of the commendation given to them by the commissioner for information (for the role) they played in ensuring that they struck out our case.

”We urge the citizenry to disregard the activities of these men, who are only acting the script of the ruling LP,” Mr. Folorungbon stressed.

The party, under the chairmanship of Olalekan Obolo, said it remains committed to promoting its progressive orientation.
