Residents say that Auchi is in turmoil.
Several locations in Auchi, Edo State, were on Monday evening attacked by armed bandits.
Residents told PREMIUM TIMES they heard loud explosions followed by gunshots in the attacks which started at about 7:00 p.m.
“Several banks in Jattu/Auchi road have been attacked,” a witness said.
The attackers reportedly razed a police station and three banks, including EcoBank, GT Bank and Access Bank.
The attackers are yet to be identified but residents believe they are robbers.
“Some police officers have been shot,” a resident said. “Auchi is in confusion now!”
The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Anthony Airhuoho, did not respond to calls and text messages for comments on the attack.
The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media, Kasim Afegbua, did not also respond to phone calls and text messages.
As at 8:00p.m. on Monday, the attack was still ongoing.
