The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers on Wednesday said it would zone its 2019 governorship ticket to the riverside area of the state mostly inhabited by the Ijaw.
Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, the Chairman of APC in Rivers, stated this at a rally in Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers.
Mr Flag-Amachree said the leader of the APC in Rivers and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, was in support of the party’s position on power rotation.
“As Kalabari people, we must all stand behind our leader for the APC in Rivers to produce a governorship candidate of the party that is Ijaw.
“From today, as a son of the soil, I want to say that any Kalabari man or Ijaw at large that will not support an Ijaw candidate will be declared as an enemy,” he said.
Earlier, Emeka Beke, the Secretary of the party in Rivers, said the people of Ikwerre would support the Ijaw to produce the governor in 2019.
“Ikwerre and the Kalabari people are neighbours and we will support them and their Ijaw brothers to produce the governor in 2019,” he said.
Honourable Asita, the APC Deputy Governorship candidate for Rivers in the 2015 poll, said the party would produce a new team to face the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019.
He said: “2019 is not about my interest, I want APC to win and we will work with whoever the leader of the party advises us to support.
“Ikwerre people are not greedy, Ikwerre people and their upland neighbours have been occupying the governorship position since 1999.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high point of the rally was the defection of key members of the PDP in the council area to the APC.
