The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State has pledged support for President Muhammadu Buhari, while also commending the state governor, Udom Emmanuel.
The state chairman, Paul Ekpo, made this known while reading a communique issued at the end of a meeting attended by party leaders in Uyo, the state capita, weekend.
The party congratulated Mr. Buhari on his election and said the PDP in Akwa Ibom State will support the administration.
“In spite of our political differences, we pledge our support for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration,” Mr. Ekpo, who read the communiqué, said.
The party commended the state governor, Mr. Emmanuel, for what it described as, “the bold steps he has taken to position the state on the path of continuous growth, prosperity and development”.
It also congratulated the former governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio, on his emergence as the Senate Minority Leader and urged him to use his new office to provide quality leadership in the Senate.
“Akwa Ibom remains a PDP stronghold yesterday, today and tomorrow as evidenced in the pattern of voting in the past 16 years of democratic rule in the country,” the communiqué said.
“The election of Udom Emmanuel represents the collective will of our people and, therefore, remains sacrosanct and inviolable.”
It insisted that the PDP will stand by Mr. Emmanuel to ensure that he achieves his vision as encapsulated in his 5-Point Agenda for the state.
Mr. Emmanuel said the government has within its three-month stay laid the foundation for industrial revolution in the state and also invested in power generation, human capacity development and youth empowerment, among others.
