Fire has engulfed the Kolo Creek-Rumekpe pipeline operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company in Oruma, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The incident happened barely five days after an oil leak from Shells Kolo Creek Manifold.

Checks at the oil field on Monday showed that the fire was burning along the pipeline’s right of way with thick fog heading skywards and into the atmosphere.

The SPDC’s Spokesperson, Joseph Obari, in a telephone interview, said the oil firm was investigating the cause of the fire and will issue a statement after the investigations.

Officials of the Bayelsa Ministry of Environment visited the location for an on–the-spot assessment while fire fighters had not arrived the scene as at 3 p.m. on Monday.
