A former minister, and a governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said that outgoing Governor Chibuike Amaechi will not be allowed to rig the forthcoming general elections in the state.
Mr. Wike is a member of the People Democratic Party, PDP, while the governor is a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking to PDP delegates during a tour to Emohua Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Wike said his party was closely monitoring the outgoing governor and will not allow him to subvert the will of the people.
According to him, PDP is on the way to total victory in Rivers State.
“For us, it will be one man, one vote and one woman, one vote. We will win all the forthcoming elections in Rivers State,” he said.
Mr. Wike urged all Emohua PDP delegates to vote for him during the governorship primary, stating that he has developed a framework to defeat APC in the state.
He also called on PDP delegates and members in the area to continue to support President Jonathan’s re-election, as he has performed well.
In his address, the PDP chairman for Emohua LGA, Vincent Orji, assured Mr. Wike of votes from the local government.
A PDP chieftain in Emohua, Sergeant Awuse, said the decision to vote Mr. Wike was taken because of the poor performance of Mr. Amaechi.
He said that the former minister’s leadership of Rivers State has been ordained by God for the liberation of the long suffering people of the state.
Also speaking, a former chairman of Emohua LGA, Emeka Woke, said the people of the area stood by Mr. Wike and President Jonathan to enhance the development of the state and Nigeria.
Highpoint of the visit was the traditional endorsement of Mr. Wike by the paramount rulers of Emohua LGA.
