Some gunmen on Friday abducted 64-year old Mozilla Agara, a younger brother to the paramount ruler of Kolokuma kingdom in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa state.

Mr. Agara was a former staff of Shell Petroleum Development Company.

The gunmen, according to witnesses, were about five; stormed Mr. Agara’s residence in Olobiri and whisked him away to an unknown location.

A family member of the victim, Amaran Suoyo, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s vehicle was later found abandoned at Odi area of the local government.

The police spokesperson in Bayelsa, Akighbe Alex, said the police were on the trail of the gunmen.

He said the police chased the kidnappers to the Odi waterfront, where the gunmen escaped in a waiting speed boat.

Mr. Akhigbe said the vehicles used by the gunmen have been recovered.

The police spokesperson assured that they have swung into action to rescue the victim and bring the perpetrators to book.

Bayelsa passed an anti-kidnapping law over two years ago, which recommended a death sentence for those convicted of the crime.
