Prominent northern politician, Lili Gabari, is dead

One of the founding members of Northern Elements People’s Union, NEPU, Lili Gabari is dead.

Mr. Gabari, 82, died on Tuesday morning living behind many children and great grand children.

Tanko Yakasai, a close ally to late Mr. Gabari, told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Gabari was not only a founding member of NEPU, but contributed financially to build the party.

NEPU was the party of late Aminu Kano, whose policy was welfarist and pro-poor.

Mr. Yakasai said Mr. Gabari contested for councillor from his Aujara ward under NEPU in the first republic.

The deceased was also a member of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in the second republic.

He was a major supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party until his death.
