Kaduna govt. to acquire Peugeot, targets 90,000 cars yearly

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna says the state has concluded plans to acquire the majority shares of the comatose Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria, Kaduna.

Mr. El-Rufai said this at the ongoing Kaduna international Trade fair.

According to the governor, the state had already submitted its interest to Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) which manages the liabilities of the company.

“Our hope is that when we acquire the majority share of the company, we will restructure it to operate to full capacity of assembling between 90,000 and 100,000 cars yearly.

“We have the support of PAN as well as the government of France in this drive.

Mr. El-Rufai said PAN is a critical partner in Kaduna state’s industrial history, and now has gone down from assembling 90,000 cars per annum to merely 200 a year.

“We are determined to bring back all industries related to Peugeot established in Kaduna as part of plans to ensure that every youth in Kaduna State has something doing,” he said.

He commended the Kaduna Chambers of Commerce, Mines, Industries and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), for bringing captains of commerce and industries to the state for the event.

Acquire PAN? Don’t do it, our dear progressive governor because it will be unsustainable. It will guzzle millions of scarce foreign exchange with only a handful of employment as many of the operations, even in the ordinary assembly lines have become automated. Rather, I urge Governor El-Rufai to take the bold step of investing in the science, engineering and technology education of the youths in the universities and polytechnics and building infrastructue that could spur endogenous technological development. Then, we can grow into designing and manufacturing our own vehicles locally and even export motor vehicles by year 2040. Let us imbibe a vision of technoeconomic self-reliance.

    • Ade

Your progressive governor is a thief, after over seeing selling of Nigeria assets to obasanjo and to his cronies, he wants to buy PAN for kaduna state, and convert it to himself.

      • Ade2

Is that all your backward mind churned out today?

      • Omoba1

That is a possibility. Government should not be involved in corporate business affairs. If El-Rufai leaves in the future what becomes the fate of PAN. We know from history that government established organizations are never successful due to widespread corruption and bureaucracies, resulting to abysmal and dysfunctional organization e.g NEPA/PHCN, NITEL, NIPOST, NTA etc

  • Sir Louis

Good move by the Kaduna State government. Other states should identify struggling industries they can takeover and turn to profitability for the purpose of employment generation and setting the stage for the industrialisation of the country. Well done, el- Rufai.

Allegations without prove is libelous, if you’re sure go to court.
This has nothing to do with purchase of PAN by Kaduna state

      • Segun Abiodun

The EFCC has already taken the midget thief ( Nasir El Rufai ) to court on some of the issues mentioned in my post.
What has stalled the continued prosecution of the matter is the fact that el Rufai is part of the ruling party.
There is effectively a freeze on the prosecution of cases relating to APC members.
I hope I have made my self clear.

      • emmanuel

timid Yorubaman at it again. Go to court bla bla bla bla. Abi na the Fulani he goat when dey use different names on behalf of El-Rufai be this? It sounds like same person.
The stupendous wealth from Nigeria FG is what will destroy his household while he is still alive.
My former Church members elder brother died from the pains of El-Rufais land acquisition sheme in Abuja. you think say those bllods nor go cry out?

        • ojays

Am a true Yoruba man I didn’t say u are wrong all I said was take him to court. Then another said Rufai has cases in court un disposed so maybe when APC is out of govt somebody will revive the cases. Lets take race/tribe away from this discussions. It does no good. Cheer up
