The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has granted approval for the Kano University of Science Technology, KUST, to recruit 15 professors from across the world, with a pledge to pay their salaries and other entitlements for four consecutive years.
Mr. Dangote, who is the pro-chancellor of the university, also directed the university to provide sufficient plots of land to build residential quarters and other required facilities for the professors.
Addressing newsmen on Sunday to mark the 15th Anniversary of the university, the vice chancellor, Shehu Musa, said the philanthropist also ordered the construction of 30,000-capacity industrial boreholes.
Mr. Musa, a professor of Agricultural Economics, said apart from giving the university N100 million lifeline, the business mogul also directed and paid for linking the university with Integrated Power Project.
While expressing gratitude for the businessman’s gesture, he added that Mr. Dangote had since initiated an endowment, which would see his friends and business associates coming to help the institution for its progress.
The professor said in his 18 months as vice-chancellor, the university got more than 50 ongoing capital projects, just as the institution benefitted from TETFUND and support from philanthropists such as Aminu Dantata and Isyaku Rabiu.
Mr. Musa also said 49 visiting professors were teaching in the university.
