The Kano State Government has expanded Ramadan feeding centres in Kano metropolis from120 to180 with a view to providing about 100,000 needy Muslims with free meals daily.
The state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who stated this while meeting with stakeholders of the state Ramadan Feeding Committee at Kano Government House on Saturday, emphasized that the meals would be distributed in a non-partisan way and to all needy persons.
The governor urged wealthy individuals to emulate government’s gesture by introducing free meals initiative so as to assist the less privileged in the blessed month of Ramadan.
He appealed to people involved in buying foodstuff, preparing and distributing the meals to be God fearing in the discharge of their duties, noting that apart from the allowances that they will get, they should not forget that God Almighty is watching them and would reward them according to their deeds in the hereafter.
Earlier, the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Usman Bala, disclosed that each centre would be provided with 10 bags of rice, two of beans, two of millet, three of flour, three of sugar and five jerrycans of cooking oil, among other things, daily.
Mr. Usman added that the cooks engaged to prepare the food would be given N10, 000 each at the end of the programme, cautioning them to adhere with government specifications and guidelines on preparing and distributing the meals.
In his speech, Commander General, Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa and the state Solicitor General dwelt extensively on the imperative of trust and the legal implication against breach of trust on the Ramadan feeding arrangement.
