Bala Hassan, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 10, on Thursday said four gunmen on Wednesday night kidnapped Salihu Barada, the District Head of Wamakko, Sokoto State, and brother to the state governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
Mr. Hassan said in Sokoto that the police and other security agencies had been placed on alert to rescue the traditional ruler.
He said the gunmen, using a gold coloured vehicle, kidnapped Mr. Barada and one other person at his farm around 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
He said the kidnappers, however, released the second person at Bege village, Kebbi, adding that effective operation had commenced to rescue the traditional ruler.
“We have deployed our men to the area and very soon we will apprehend those involved,” he said.
Mr. Hassan urged people to provide useful information that would lead to the rescue of the district head to the police.
