The Kano State Emirate Council, under the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has set up an Emirate Council Ebola Enlightenment Committee, to sensitise the 44 local Government District Heads as well as Jumaat Mosques Imams and other similar bodies in the state on the disease.
The committee, which has the mandate of going to all parts of the state to enlighten the people, is chaired by Shaawa Saad and has 16 other members.
A member of the committee, Tijjani Ahmad of Freedom Radio, a local Radio Station in Kano, told Premium Times, that as part of the committee’s way of achieving its objective, it had already scheduled a workshop for the 44 District Heads in the state.
He said the district heads are expected to transmit the messages they received from the workshop to their village heads and community leaders who will now in turn send town criers to every corner of Kano with the messages.
Mr. Ahmad said the enlightenment programme would teach district heads, village heads and community leaders how to treat a possible Ebola patient, how to look into possible outbreak, and how to avoid things that can lead to the disease.
He said the committee would however not deal with Ebola alone. It would also communicate messages about communicable diseases such as measles and polio.
