The police said only two people died after consuming the local drink.
The police in Kano said on Tuesday it had arrested two persons, including the groom, in connection with the death of six youth, during the Sunday night wedding party in the Kano metropolis.
The six youth, aged between 20 and 22 years, allegedly died after consuming a locally brewed concoction, “Zakami’’, at a wedding reception in Unguwa Uku.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the arrest in an interview in Kano on Tuesday.
Mr. Majiya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said two other suspects were declared wanted for allegedly supplying the substance at the venue of the event.
“We are looking for two persons for the role they played in bringing the substance to the venue of the party.
“The two others arrested are currently assisting the police in their investigation, and as soon as investigation is concluded, they will be charged to court,’’ he said.
Mr. Majiya, however, said that only two persons died during the incident, while two others were admitted in hospital.
“Only two persons lost their lives during the Sunday incident, and two others are currently at the hospital receiving treatment,” he said.
The police spokesperson warned youth to desist from taking intoxicants to social gatherings as anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted.
