President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday congratulated the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, for attaining 50 years on the throne.

Mr. Jonathan congratulated the Emir in Kano at the launching of a book entitled: ‘KIFAYU DHUA’AFA AL SUDAN’, written by Abdullahi Gwandu, as part of activities commemorating Mr. Bayero’s 50 years on the throne.

Represented by the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, Mr. Jonathan lauded the Emir for his `immense’ contributions to peace and development of the society. He also applauded the contributions of the Emirate in the spread of Islamic knowledge across the country.

“The Emir deserves to be congratulated for attaining 50 years on the throne and attaining the age of 83,’’ Mr. Jonathan said.

He urged other traditional rulers in the country to emulate the Emir of Kano in order to leave behind lasting legacies. He promised that the Federal Government would partner with traditional institution for the development of the society.

In his remarks, Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso of Kano State congratulated the Emir and the Emirate Council on the Emir’s golden jubilee on the throne. He expressed appreciation to the Emir for his fatherly role which, he said, had contributed to the development of the state and the nation.

Mr. Kwankwaso also pledged that his administration would work with traditional rulers in the state for the sustenance of peace.

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who described the emir as ‘a living symbol of integrity,’ praised the monarch for his role in ensuring peaceful co-existence in the country.

He also lauded the emir for his patience, steadfastness and selfless service to the people.

The Federal Government bought a copy of the book for N12 million, the former Vice President Abubakar bought one for N25 million, while Kano State Government purchased for N10 million.
