The Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has said that his position is denying him the joy of relating with his childhood friends.
Mr. Bayero expressed the view in Kano on Thursday in an interview with journalists in commemoration of his 50 years on the throne.
He said, “Friends that we grew and played together with during my childhood days are unable to have access to me now.
“Sometimes, it is only when we go abroad to places like Saudi Arabia or England that we see without hindrance.
“The protocol involved is too cumbersome for some of my friends.’’
Mr. Bayero said that the development witnessed in the country in the last 50 years was tremendous and added that Nigeria was not as bad as some people were portraying the country.
‘’Developments come slowly. When you ask a man of 50 years, he will tell you what obtained in Nigeria then and now.
“Then you will know that a lot of things have happened in terms of development in the country.
“Nigeria has always survived crisis and the current ones will soon be history with the prayers of everyone of us,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kano metropolis is wearing a new look as people from within and outside Nigeria converge to witness the golden jubilee celebration of the emir’s coronation.
