The festival celebrates the rich culture of the Tiv.

The 2013 Akata Fishing and Cultural Festival is set to hold from June 25 to June 27. The festival, which was originally billed for June 4 to 6, was postponed- according to its organiser, Gren Business Dimensions- to ensure its success.

In a statement, the principal consultant of Gren Business, Rosemary Duamlong, apologised for any inconvenience the postponement may have caused participants and sponsors.

The festival is being organised to celebrate the rich culture of the Tiv people in Benue State and also to promote tourism in the state. It will feature a fishing competition which is the main event, traditional dances, songs, wrestling; power bike riding; boat racing, and arrow shooting competition. It will also feature a traditional Tiv pageant (Miss Akata) aimed at promoting the Tiv woman and her virtues, the statement said.
