Katsina Governor commends FG for troop deployment

The deployment of additional troops to Katsina, being a border state is highly commendable as it would ensure vigilance, the Katsina governor said.

The Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the deployment of additional troops to the state.

Mr. Shema made the commendation when he received the General Officer Commanding, GOC, Nigerian Army, 1 Div. Kaduna, Garba Wahab, the who visited him at Government House in Katsina on Wednesday.

He said that the deployment of additional troops to Katsina, being a border state, is highly commendable as it would ensure vigilance.

The governor acknowledged the role played by the army in ensuring quick return of normalcy after the recent robbery attack in Daura. He also assured the government’s continued protection of the lives of citizens and their property, noting that government would not rest on its oars in ensuring peace and stability in the state.

Mr. Shema, who thanked the GOC for the visit, also appealed to traditional rulers, the clergy and community leaders in the state to give maximum support to the security agencies in their operations.

He said that the state would continue to partner with security outfits to achieve results.

Earlier, Mr. Wahab said that he was in the state on an assessment visit.

He assured the readiness of the army to cooperate with the State Government for continued protection of lives.

The GOC also expressed appreciation to the State Government for rehabilitating some structures in the Army Barracks, commending the cordial relationship between the army and the civilian populace.
