The Special Task Force has appealed to the warring factions to embrace dialogue and genuine forgiveness for lasting peace in the state.
The STF made the arrest public in a statement by its spokesman, Salisu Mustapha, made available to journalists in Jos. The statement stressed that “STF will leave no stone unturned in fishing out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The task force, however, appealed to the warring factions to embrace dialogue and genuine forgiveness for lasting peace in the state.
“On Monday 15th April, 2013 at about 11:30pm, gunmen attacked Dakum village in Riyom Local Government Area and killed eight villagers and injured one. Also, on 16thApril at about 5:30am, two people were ambushed and killed between Jol and Tanjol villages of Riyom Local Government.
“On Wednesday 17th April, around 1:30pm a group of cows were attacked between Tanjol, Rim and Gilgare settlements. 19 cows were killed and 6 sustained gunshots wounds. Also, at about 11:50pm, another attack was carried out on Tashek and Jol settlement and the assailants killed 7 people and burnt some houses,” the task force said.
The second attack on April 17, according to the statement, was a reprisal following the killing of cows in the areas on April 14 and 17.
Four suspects have since been arrested in connection with the incident of April 15; and are currently being investigated, it added.
Mr. Mustapha said the crisis in the areas has been brought under control by the STF troops and normalcy has returned to the affected communities.
