The Kaduna Governor said the inadequacies will be corrected before the 2013 Hajj.

The Kaduna State Government has said all intending female pilgrims for Hajj 2013 from the state must have a Chaperone, Maharam, before being registered for the exercise; to avoid any hitches.

Governor Mukhtar Yero made this assertion while receiving the 2012 Hajj report in his office on Tuesday.

A statement made available to journalists in Kaduna by the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Ahmed Maiyaki, quotes the governor as saying that the Hajj exercise is not an easy task, but the state would continue to improve on it.

Mr. Yero assured that his administration would implement the recommendations of the 2012 Hajj team in the interest of the pilgrims and to sustain the state’s enviable records.

He said he was aware of some of the challenges such as the use of the International Trade Fair Complex instead of the Hajj Camp preparatory to take-off. He said that the final assistance given to the Internally Displaced Persons IDPs, who are taking refuge in the permanent Hajj camp, meant they are expected to vacate the place to give room for its renovation for use by pilgrims.

He stressed that, henceforth, the government would not tolerate certain indolence and the selection of officials would be based on merit to give room for those interested in service to partake in the exercise.

Earlier, the 2012 Amirul Hajj, Manir Ja’afar enumerated some of the challenges of the team despite the success he said they recorded.

He identified issues such as the review of the law that established the board, the transit camp problem, early saving scheme, early appointment of officials and their numbers, and the choice of aircraft and contractors as some of the problems that should be looked into.
