Teachers in Kebbi State are being transferred to the their zones of origin
The Kebbi State Ministry of Education on Friday said it had begun general transfer of teachers to their zones of origin to end agitations over postings.
The Director of Schools Management, Mohammed Dangusau, said this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi.
He said the general transfer was to end the desperation by teachers for posting to urban centres in preference to rural areas.
Mr. Dangusau said that 124 teachers had been transferred to 32 schools within Birnin Kebbi zone.
He also said that the postings for Yauri, Zuru and Argungu zones would be released soon.
The director, however, said that the Bunza and Jega zones would be provided more teachers considering the high demand from the zones.
He said that posting of teachers to their zones of origin would reduce hardship faced by teachers posted outside their zones of origin.
According to Faruk Maiyama, the permanent Secretary in the ministry, the new policy will discourage truancy.
He said teachers would be sent to their zones as part of efforts to improve performance in external examination and to ensure easier monitoring of teachers.
“In any case there will be massive recruitment of teachers soon,” he added.
