A commercial bus carrying 14 passenger rammed into an articulated lorry.
The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in Yobe has confirmed the death of 11 people in a road accident at Zobali village on Kano-Maiduguri Federal Highway on Wednesday.
Shehu Umar, the Yobe State FRSC Sector Commander, who confirmed the accident said it took place 12 kilometres away from Potiskum in Yobe.
Mr. Umar said that a commercial bus carrying 14 passengers rammed into an articulated lorry.
He explained that the bus went into flames and four people were burnt to ashes while seven others died from various degrees of injuries.
The sector commander said the charred bodies were buried near the scene of the accident, adding that the seven other corpses were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Potiskum.
He said the three survivors were hospitalised.
Mr. Umar expressed regrets that “the driver of the trailer failed to provide adequate notice to warn other road users of the obstruction on the road.
“Similarly, the bus driver was suspected to be over speeding and could not control the bus thereby ramming into the trailer.”
The FRSC boss urged road users to be cautious while driving and advised passengers to caution drivers against over speeding, over loading and dangerous overtaking.
