Kebbi has got the money the president promised flood victims.
Nov. 5 (PREMIUM TIMES)-The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Environment has released N250 million in fulfillment of President Goodluck Jonathan’s pledge to assist flood victims in Kebbi.
The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Bashir Yuguda, said this during a visit to the state Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Aliyu, in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
Mr. Yuguda, who inspected areas devastated by flood in the metropolis, said Jonathan had mandated him to visit and commiserate with the flood victims.
He said the Federal Government had released the N17 billion the president pledged as relief to flood victims nationwide, and urged benefitting states to utilise the assistance judiciously.
He said the assistance would provide relief to the victims and compliment state governments’ efforts on re-settlement of the victims.
“The Federal Government will implement medium and long term solutions to flood disasters after the presidential committee set up to source for fund for further assistance for the victims had concluded its assignment,’’ he said.
He called on the state governments to strengthen their State Emergency Management Agencies for rapid response on disasters.
