A 28-year-old man, Sunday Atabi, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court for stealing a motorcycle.
The police prosecutor, Danlami Isa, said the accused committed the offence on January17, 2015 at Kubwa Village, Abuja.
He told the court that the accused stole the motorcycle, valued at N80,000, and that the motorcycle was later recovered from the convict.
Mr. Isa, a corporal, said the offence was punishable under Section 390 of Criminal Code, Cap. 30 Vol.11 Laws of the FCT.
Counsel to the convict, Okonkwo Ibe, however prayed the court to have mercy on him for pleading guilty to the charge.
The magistrate however overruled Mr. Ibe’s application and sentenced Mr. Atabi to one year imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine.
The court said the fine must be deposited with the court within a stipulated period of time.
