The Plateau State Police Command on Monday said it lost 15 officers in various attacks by gunmen in 2015.
The state commissioner of police, Adekunle Oladunjoye, stated this in Jos while briefing journalists on the challenges and success recorded last year.
“The state command lost 15 police in the course of performing their duties in year the 2015,” he said.
The police chief said the command, within the out-gone year, arrested 3,378 persons, and currently had 922 suspects in its custody on awaiting trial.
He said the command prosecuted 1,935 suspects and convicted 1,420 persons for various offenses, and acquitted 49 suspects.
Out of the offenses, he said there were 37 cases of culpable homicide and 77 robbery cases currently under trial.
He added that they arrested six suspected rapists and recovered 13 vehicles from robbers.
Mr. Adekunle said the command recovered 1,000 ammunition and 26 arms from robbers.
The police command also paraded some suspects, including suspected murderers, it said specialized in killing riders of tricycles at night within the state capital, Jos.
The police commissioner revealed that properties worth millions of naira were recovered from suspected robbers and other offenders.
He reiterated his determination to rid the state of crime in the ongoing year.
