Armed men displaced villagers numbering over a thousand from Shonong village in Riyom Local Government of Plateau state on Saturday.
No one was killed in the attack, but the entire community was set ablaze.
Confirming the incident, council chairman, Riyom Local Government Area, Josephine Piyo, said attacks on her community were too many.
“In the past two months, more than 10 villages in my Local Government have been attacked, several people were killed but security operatives are here watching without doing anything to defend the people or arrested the suspects.”
But the media officer of the Special Task Force on Jos crisis, Ikedichi Iweha, insisted that the Taskforce was in total control of the situation in Shonong.
A victim, Isaac Kahwun, who escaped being killed, said the attack took place Friday night as they were preparing to go to bed.
Mr. Kahwun said security operatives deployed to the area could not intervene.
“We made distress calls to the Special Taskforce in charge of the village, but the taskforce only succeeded in asking us to vacate our houses.”
He added that the security agencies then advised them to leave their houses and run to safer place.
“More than 1,000 of us, women and children living in the village had to vacate for our lives. We are presently living in a primary school around our neighboring village,” he said.
