The police on Wednesday arraigned 32-year-old Abubakar Umar, before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, on a three-count charge of criminal trespass, mischief and causing harm.
The prosecutor, Mojisola Olamokun, alleged that Umar’s cows on April 20, destroyed yam tubers valued at N300,000 in a farmland, belonging to one Babatunde Mustapha.
Mr. Olamokun said the accused allegedly attempted to machete Mustapha when he accosted him over the destruction of the yam tubers.
She told the court that the farm owner overpowered the accused, apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor said the charges contravened Sections 348, 327 and 246 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Gbadeyan Kamson, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Kamson adjourned the case till May20 for mention.
