Kaduna state governor-elect, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday condoled with the families of the 20 persons killed on Wednesday in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.
The governor-elect condemned the killings and called for urgent action by the security forces to stem acts of banditry and terror in the area. His spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan
, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna.
Mr. Aruwan said, “The governor-elect received with sadness news of the killing of about 20 persons and the destruction of homes in a village located in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State.
“It is barbaric and inhuman. It is unfortunate that innocent Nigerians will be brutally killed in their sleep.
“The governor-elect therefore condoles the affected families and the entire community over this unfortunate act. He prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
“He also charged security agencies to redouble their efforts in ensuring maximum security in the state.”
A gang of thieves on Wednesday morning shot dead at least 20 people and set houses on fire in Gworon Dutse village in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.
The thieves, according to reports by residents, stormed the village in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Bello Hauri, a resident told PREMIUM TIMES, seven days ago, residents captured some thieves who stormed the village of Gworon Dutse village and killed two of them.
“We all believe they returned to take revenge for their friends and it was very unfortunate that many had to die,” Mr. Hauri said. “It was very early in the morning when resident are returning from morning prayers.”
