The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Wednesday asked the governorship candidate Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Simon Ajibola, to stop telling lies in “desperate attempt” to show he has performed as Senator representing Kwara South.
Mr. Ajibola, had earlier claimed to have contributed money towards projects like Baruten Road, the Ilorin Cargo Terminal and the International Vocational Centre, Ajase Ipo.
In a press statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Muyideen Akorede, the governor dismissed the assertion as blatant lies, stating that the said projects were funded from federal allocation, internal sources and bank loans.
Mr. Ahmed asked Mr. Ajibola to provide prove of his financial contribution to the projects in question.
The governor said he was disappointed in Mr. Ajibola’s ignorance of how state government projects are funded despite aspiring to govern the state.
Mr. Ahmed accused Mr. Ajibola of “being economical with the truth for failing to reveal that the state government also spent over N200m on the said road at the Senator’s request”.
He further challenged Mr. Ajibola to reveal how many federal government projects he attracted to Kwara State and which bills he has sponsored in the Senate, stating that the Federal Government’s Ajase Ipo to Erin Ile Road remains in serious disrepair despite being a major road in Kwara South which Ajibola represents in the Senate.
