​Federal cabinet hold first meeting in 2015, approves N1.2bn for Abuja Sewage Facility​

​T​he Federal Executive Council, FEC, at its first meeting for 2015, approved N1.2 billion for award of the contract for the construction of sewage facilities for the Guzape District of the Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The project is expected to be completed within 16 months.

The Supervising Minister of Information, Nurudeen Mohammed, told journalists after the meeting that ​the ​Council approved the contract after the FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, presented a memo seeking approval for the award of contract for the construction of sewage facilities to connect Guzape District (Lots 1 and 2) to the trunk mains (Stage I -connection of Guzape Lot 1) in the Abuja.

Guzape District is located around the fringes of Abuja and was not initially considered to be part of the Abuja City Master Plan.

Mr. Mohammed said in order to avoid abuses and uncoordinated development around the fringes of the city, the administration embarked on the land use and detailed site development plan of the city fringes to integrate them into overall city planning scheme.

“Consequently, Guzape District Lots 1 and 2 were planned and provided with facilities such as roads, water supply, storm water, drainage system and internal sewage network including mini sewage treat plants” he said.

FEC deliberated on the scope of the work, its significance and substantial compliance of the award process with the provisions of due process .

The minister said the project will provide employment opportunities for about 50 indigenous professionals, artisans, skilled and unskilled labourers. He said there is already the provision of N300 million from the FCT internally generated revenue for the commencement of the project while adequate provisions has been provided for the project in the FCT Funding Plan.
