Unidentified gunmen beheaded one person and shot dead another in Kantoma village of Mangu Local Government Area, in Plateau state, residents have said.
A local police officer serving at the Local Government headquarters in Mangu, who asked not to be identified since he is not authorized to speak to journalists, said this to PREMIUM TIMES.
Our source said security officials have been deployed to restore law and order and the area.
But the Police spokesperson for Plateau state, Abuh Emmanuel, in a telephone interview said he has no knowledge of the incident. He asked for more time to confirm the incident.
Residents of the area are pointing accusing fingers on Fulani herdmen and told PREMIUM TIMES that there were sporadic gunshots in the Village early hours of Wednesday where scores were killed. Most residents have fled the village.
Mangu Local Government, and particularly Kantoma village, had been peaceful until this week.
