PDP lauds Jonathan for fighting favouritism in government appointments

The Peoples Democratic Party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to abolish the practice of favouritism in the appointment of heads of Federal Government parastatals.
Mr. Jonathan last week, at a Presidential Award Ceremony for the 2011/2012 YouWin winners in Abuja, said henceforth appointments into sensitive government positions must be made competitive to ensure that only qualified people head such offices.
The PDP in a release signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said “the PDP shares completely in the vision of the President in dethroning rampant favouritism for competitive meritocracy”.
The party said their support for the president’s call became necessary because for the transformation agenda of the administration to be successful, “the President must be assisted by competent acolytes who not only share in his vision of development but have the capacity to help translate this vision into reality for the good of the people”.
Also, the PDP not only commended Mr. Jonathan for announcing that all government officials involved in budget inflation would be sacked, but also called for the prosecution of such officials.
“The move by the President is an arrow straight in the portal vein of the monster of corruption. It tallies with the multi- pronged approach the new leadership of our Party has advocated. We urge the President to go beyond the dismissal of these bad eggs to bringing them and their accomplices in other arms of government to book. He that must be corrupt must bear the full consequences of corruption,” the statement added.

“The deliberate inflation of budgets by ministries, departments and agencies of government has been a major drain on our national resources. The era where the nation budgets to satisfy the greed of patriotic few must be put behind us,” the PDP said.
