Fire Service to introduce 3 digit telephone number for emergencies

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) plans to introduce a three digit telephone number for emergencies, Olusegun Okebiorun, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, has said.

Mr. Okebiorun, who announced this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Abuja, said the service was working with other security agencies,

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Communications Commission (NCC) to introduce the number.

He said that once the number is called, the control room at the headquarters of the Service in Garki would be alerted to attend to the emergency.

Mr. Okebiorun said emergencies would be attended to promptly with the mobilisation of the nearest fire station to the scene of the incident.

He said that in the interim, the service had decided to make available to the public 08032003557 for distress calls.

Mr. Okebiorun said the number could be contacted for response to train and car accidents, air crash, floods, building collapse, lift failure and other emergencies at home and offices.

He warned Nigerians on the danger of stage managing fires that could result into bigger fires, consuming victims and causing other damages.

  • Mr. Okebiorun well done wooo, for all the effort you ad your fire fighters are making to answer the people in time, what about water in the tanks? Ever since I was a little girl I know fire service with plenty of excuses for not attending promptly to put out fire. Water was a major problem. They mostly discover empty tank at the point of giving service or half way through the work water gets finished and now see the number they are making available to people for distress call. I suggest that a number that is easier to remember be acquired from all networks after all even individual who do not have to attend to emergencies are having more than one network for if one network is not available the other might be or don’t you think so?
This 08032003557 I assure is not easy to remember and call although you are promising 3 digits, we are talking of distress here, MTN please help..
